Natural Reserve of Mount Cofano

Natural Reserve of Mount Cofano

About 8 km from San Vito lo Capo you will find the stunning Mount Cofano.  At a height of 659 metres, trekking to the top is unforgettable!  With dramatic views of the entire province of Trapani, the colour of the sea is one of the best you’ll ever see.  At the bottom of the Mount you’ll find some small fishermen’s houses and a Spanish tower once used to keep the pirates away and save the ‘Tonnara’ (Tuna Fishery) that was there, long ago you had to protect places were tuna was fished!

Trekking along the coast leads you to caves where bandits hid and a chapel with a mystery...
It is possible to observe animals like the rare eagle of Bonelli, the peregrine falcon and seagulls.

If you are here during the right season you can find capers, used in many dishes here in Sicily.  You can also admire the dwarf palm used for local artisan crafts.  You can also find the ‘Buso’ a thick grass which is used to roll the famous busiate pasta!

So jump into history, the amazing crystal sea and check for wildlife.... What could be better?
